I do not recall when I bought this book, 100 Days of Favor: Daily Readings From Unmerited Favor, and why I bought it. One day, in 2011, I found this book in my house’s book shelf. I guess I must have been attracted to the title ‘Days of Favour’ but have forgotten that I have bought the book. It must have been lying in my shelf for some years. I place the book on my table, but simply did not find the time to read it until in 2012 when I lost my job.
In those dark moments, I opened up the book and read the story of Peter who walked on water but when he saw the storm, he began to sink. Pastor Prince wrote these powerful words “Keep your eyes on Jesus…it is the most powerful thing you can do. Jesus will cause you to reign over every storm in your life.” These words gave me strength to stand up again.
As I progress, day by day reading the book, I am amazed at the choice of words used. They are like medicine, healing my soul. On day 3, I read that “If it matters to you, it matters to Him!” Really? No pastor ever told me that. Every christian leader I knew in the past was that I must pray for God’s will. Then often, when things don’t turn out right, I guess, my desire was not in line with God’s will for me. God seems some far away, majestic, high and mighty king. However, when I read that what matters to me matters to Jesus, suddenly, my soul and spirit knows this is the truth. Because when I love someone, what matters to that person, matters to me. So if God loves me, then what matters to me must have matters to God too!
Everyday, the words written in this book were so powerful. Let me just pick another day — Day 7, it talked about Jesus touching the Leper. Pastor Prince said, no one would want to touch a leper but Jesus knew that what the leper needed not to be healed not just of leprosy but also of emotional scars and rejection.
Fast forward to Day 56, Pastor Prince shared that before the law was given, none of the children of Israel died when they came out of Egypt. Even though they murmured and complained against God’s appointed leadership, none of them died..this is a picture of pure grace. He said he had never heard anyone who preached this before, and neither did I. Despite decades of being in christian ministries and churches, I never know that. It is however, a very profound truth! The children of Israel were dependent on God’s faithfulness under the Abrahamic covenant based on grace (unmerited favour), before the ten commandments (the law) were given. Pastor Prince taught that the good news for us us that we are under the new covenant of grace (unmerited favour) because Jesus died for us and we are put right before God.
This is a great book. I read it again and again and I highly recommend everyone to read it.
