Do You Know?

Jesus place our interests before His...
There are actually 4 stories in Chapter 14 of the Gospel of Matthew. Just before this story about Jesus feeding the 5000 people, Jesus had received news that his cousin, John the Baptist was beheaded. The scripture in Matthew 14:13, the verse just before this states that:

“When Jesus heard it, He departed from there by boat to a deserted place by Himself. But when the multitudes heard it, they followed Him on foot from the cities. ” Matthew 14:13 (NKJV)

So why was Jesus going to a deserted place to be by Himself? Let’s look at the verses just after he has fed the 5000 people:

“Immediately, Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent the multitudes away. And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on a mountain by Himself to pray. And when evening had come, He was alone there. ” Matthew 14:22 (NKJV)

Notice the word ‘Immediately…’. You can see that immediately after the 5000 people had eaten, Jesus hurried to go up the mountain by Himself to pray. I believe after He had received the news that John the Baptist was beheaded, He was grieved, He needed spiritual food from His Heavenly Father. He was hurrying to go to a deserted place to be by Himself, to spend some quiet moments with God. However, when the multitudes followed Him, He was moved with compassion. Not only did He heal them, He fed them. He could have chosen to send them away after they were healed. Yet, He chose to feed them!

Friends, Jesus loves us. He placed our interests before His. So never worry. He loves to provide for us. As earthly parents, we love to provide for our children. How much more our Heavenly Father who is the perfect Father!

God will do the miracles, but... through us..
Did you noise that in Matthew 14:16, instead of saying “I will give them something to eat”, Jesus said to His disciples “You give them something to eat”.

Why? Why did Jesus said that?

Yet in Matthew 14:18, He said “Bring them (the 5 loaves and 2 fishes) to Me”…It was Jesus who said the prayer.  It was  Jesus who blessed and broke the bread. God multiplied the food. But Jesus gave the loaves to the disciples who in turn gave to the multitudes.

I believe this is how the Lord will provide. We do not need to worry about how we can make our business grow, how the money will come, how to make things happen… We just need to be the vessel… for God to use. God will do the miracle. We are the channel. That is why Jesus told us not to worry. Just like planting, we just need to water the plant. It is God who will make the plant grow. If you are a student, you just need to study, God will bless you with results better than others, no need to fear nor worry.

Jesus can multiply...we just need to give to Him what we have
Sometimes, in our life, we are faced with so many things to do. When my child was taking his exams, I always remind him about this story… I told him that even if we have just one hour to study, Jesus can multiply that one hour such that we can absorb and learn a lot even within that hour. It is possible. We just need to look up to God, give thanks and do our part on earth. God will do the rest.
