Genesis 39:23 New King James Version (NKJV)

Get to know God

God would not want us to settle for the second best

In this scripture, Joseph was doing pretty well. He said in Genesis 39:9 that no one in Potiphar’s house was greater than him. However, what was good enough to Joseph was not good enough to God. God’s plan was not for Joseph to be the in-charge in Potiphar’s house but to be the Prime Minister of Egypt. Egypt in that era was the richest and most powerful civilisation. To be the Prime Minister of Egypt was a really big thing!

The God that placed Joseph to become the Prime Minister of Egypt is also your God and He loves you.

Almighty God has great plans for us. Do you know how big is our God? If you have read the truths about our universe, you would have discovered that astronomers estimated that the size of observable universe is 93 billion light-years in diameter. How long a distance is 1 light-year? Well, it takes 8.3 minutes for light to travel from the Sun to our Earth. One light-year is the distance travelled by light in 1 year. So how wide do you think is the diameter of our observable universe? And astronomers are only talking about “observable” distance, no one knows how much further is the area of the universe that cannot be observed. Now, if the universe is that gigantic, how big do you think is our God?

Now, if God is so big, if He is the supreme ruler that rules over this immeasurable universe, what do you think He cannot give you? All things are possible with God. God works with big numbers and His plans for us is nothing but great. God has great plans for each and everyone of us who walks with Him — who believes in Him, who seeks Him, who prays and worships and calls on His name. So, never give up when you are faced with tough times. Press on and put your hope in no one else but only in God.

Never lose hope

Sometimes, life can be really, really tough. We face a tragedy, we walk with God, we trust in God, we have successes and we thought we are out of the tunnel, then another tragedy strikes.

Never lose hope, my child. The nearer you get to your promised land, the stronger the forces of darkness will fight to stop you from reaching your highest calling. Know that God is always in control. He is still seated on the throne, the supreme ruler of the entire universe. Above all, He loves you.

Nothing can stop the plan that God has for you. So never be discouraged. Keep believing that God loves you. His love for you is steadfast, unwaivering, everlasting, unfailing.

God sustained Joseph

Close your eyes and think — on that morning, Joseph was still the favourite of his father. He was obedient to his father and did what his father instructed him. He trusted his brothers because they were his blood brothers. However, on that same day, he was tied up, brought into a foreign land and sold as a slave. He  must have been crying…in great fear…hoping that someone could come and rescue him. Such traumatic experience is not something  anyone could cope.

Yet, in this scripture, Genesis 39, we read that Joseph found favour in the eyes of Potiphar who bought him. Joseph became the in-charge in Potiphar’s household and he also grew from the seventeen years old teenage boy to a well-built, handsome man. Can you see that our LORD God had never left Joseph? It was God who caused Potiphar to pick Joseph. It was God who gave Joseph success in everything he did so that he found favour in the eyes of Potiphar. So that Joseph could find strength to live those difficult years, away from his home, and not knowing what lies in the future.

God gave Joseph success in everything so that Joseph could experience God’s love and God’s presence in everything he did. So that Joseph would remain strong in his faith.

This is our God. In your darkest time, He is there with you.

What is faith?

Faith is not believing in the impossible. Faith is believing that God’s love for us is perfect and this perfect love will not allow any evil to happen to us. Faith is believing that the great love God has for us will propel Him to perform miracles to bless us.

Are you wondering…

How to become a believer?

You can be a believer simply by saying this prayer:

Dear God, thank you for so wonderfully make me and thank you for sending your Son, LORD Jesus to die for me so that I can have the blessed life that you intended for me — a life of leadership and fruitfulness. Now I believe and accept Jesus as my LORD and Saviour. I believe that from this time forth, I am a new creation, I am born again and I have the eternal life that Jesus came to give me. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
