Where does wisdom come from?

In the Bible, Job asked if anyone knows where does wisdom come from? He concluded that “God alone knows where it can be found” and “the fear of the LORD is true wisdom” (Job 28:28).  In the old testament, the Spirit of God was mentioned in Genesis 41:38, Exodus 28:3, 31:3, 35:31, Daniel 5:14 and in all these cases, the people who received the Spirit, also received wisdom.

In 1 Corinthians 2:9-12, the apostle Paul wrote that who could know a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.

Yet, do you know that when we believe in Jesus, we receive the Spirit of God who will never leave us (John 14:16)? Jesus said the Spirit will lead us into all truths (John 16:12-15).

That means, as a believer of Jesus, the source of wisdom is in you! Wisdom is your inheritance. When you have Jesus, you have the Spirit of God (John 7:38-39, 14:16-17, Romans 8:9) and therefore, wisdom is yours to claim. You just need to live by the Spirit and ask God for wisdom and He will give to you liberally (James 1:5-8).

4. Why didn’t the Bible give us more information about the wise men?

Every scripture is inspired by God (2 Timothy 3:16). When the author Matthew wrote this gospel, he was writing under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Since not much information was written in the Bible about the wise men, it simply means these are not important information.

Do you know who in the eyes of God is wise?

The key information the Bible tells us about the wise men are that they are described as “wise” and they sought out Jesus. This being the case, these two pieces of information must be what God deem to be very important to us. God did not tell us how many wise men or what was their occupation or where they came from so that our attention are not on all these who, where, what, how many. Instead, God wants us to know that these are men whom God calls them wise. God wants us to focus our attention on what they do so we can do likewise and live wisely. So let’s study in more detail about the wise men.

5. Why are the wise men described as “wise”?

When we read the scriptures, we can pick out a few attributes about the wise men. By knowing these attributes, it gives us insights into the mind of God. It tells us in God’s mind, who is considered to be wise. Jesus has taught us in the parable of the rich fool who thought that he was wise to accumulate wealth and plan for his future, only to discover that the time for him to die was that night and he had no more future on earth. So it is of utmost importance to do the things that God would consider us wise to do them. Otherwise, we are effectively wasting away our lives. Only the Holy Spirit can reveal to us the mind of God (1 Corinthians 2:11). So as you read this, I pray that the Holy Spirit will give you understanding.

1. The wise men were vigiliant

They saw the signs in the sky and they sought out Jesus. This reminds us of Jesus teaching the disciples to learn from the fig tree to know the signs of end times (Matthew 24:32). Jesus had told us in Matthew 24:6-8 the signs of the beginning of end times. Some of these signs are taking place even as you read this. Would you be like the wise men to recognise that these are the signs that Jesus talked about and set your minds on the things of God?

2. The wise men believed the word of God

They believed that Jesus is the King of the Jews and they believed the scriptures (Micah 5:2) that indicated that the Messiah would be in Bethlehem. (Take note that the chief priests and scribes knew this but they were not seeking out Jesus to worship him. They were busy serving king Herod!). Be careful that you do not get all caught up with serving men.

3. The wise men honored and worshipped Jesus

They honored Jesus’ kingship and travelled long distance to come and worship Him as a king that He deserved. They brought gifts to Jesus. The Bible tells us that one day, Christ will come and at the name of Jesus every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is LORD. Who then, my child, do you choose to seek, to honor and to worship?

Do you want to receive Jesus into your life?

Jesus is God’s gift to us. We are saved through the grace of God. All it takes is to believe in Jesus and accepts Him into our life to be our LORD and Saviour. You can be saved simply by saying a simple prayer like this:

“Dear LORD Jesus, I believe You are the Son of God and that Your love for me has driven You to leave Your throne in heaven to come to this world to die in my place so that I can be forgiven. I thank you that your blood has cleansed me from all my sins, I am forgiven as I say this prayer. From this moment onwards, I am a new creation, I am a child of God, I am forgiven, forever in You, forever righteous. Thank you for all that You suffer and did for me. I pray that You fill me with Your Holy Spirit so that I can lead the victorious life that You came to give me. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

If you have said the above prayer, you are saved. You are a child of God, the  Creator of this entire universe. You have eternal life. You are a Christian, a new creation. Old things have passed away. God has only great plans for you, plans of peace that will give you a great future (Jeremiah 29:11). From this day on, He is doing a new thing in your life so that you can have a rich and satisfying life that Jesus came to give you (John 10:10). Start walking with Jesus (tell Him (pray) all your problems, needs and desires, read the bible, believe His promises) and you are going to experience breakthroughs and miracles. Look for a church that is based on the Word of God (the Bible), that believes in the power and miracles of God and that teaches the unfailing love and grace of God.

If you are not yet a Christian but would like to receive Jesus into your life, pray this prayer:

“Dear LORD Jesus, I believe You are the Son of God and that Your love for me has driven You to leave Your throne in heaven to come to this world to die in my place so that I can be forgiven. Thank you that You suffered and died for me. I pray that You come into my life to be my Savior. Thank you that your blood has cleansed me from all my sins and I am forgiven even as I say this prayer. I believe and declare that from this moment onwards, , I am a new creation, I am a child of God, I am forgiven, I have a new life, an eternal life. I pray that You fill me with Your Holy Spirit so that I can lead the victorious life that You came to give me. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

If you have said the above prayer, you are saved. You have eternal life. You are a Christian, a new creation. Old things have passed away. God is doing a new thing in your life.
